Job description:
Under policy direction, manages the planning, organizing and directing of all activities and programs within the City's Fire Department.
Plans, organizes and directs activies of the department;
Implements operational policies, goals and objctives;
Provides leadership and direction in development of short and long range plans & projects;
Gathers, interpretes and prepares data for studies, reports & recommendations;
Develops, reviews & provides information to City Mgr. and/or City Council;
Serves as a liaison with various local, state & national organizations;
Prepares the annual budget and manages expenditures;
Determines resource needs for various dept. projects & services;
Responds to major fire or emergency scenes; may take command of incident scenes;
Responds to and resolves complex and sensitive inquiries or complaints from general public;
Assesses detp. operations to ensure effectiveness, efficiency & public convenience;
Selects and supervises staff; directs staff training and development
Reviews and evaluates staff performance;
Meets, discusses and provides direction to staff regarding work assignments and projects;
Conducts service delivery studies and research to identify innovative best practices;
performs a variety of administrative activities that include employee scheduling, payroll reporting and report processing;
Serves on various external committees, boards and groups as a representative of the Department
Performs other duties as assigned or required

Job Requirements
Education, training, experience:
High school diploma or GED and 10 years firefighting experience, including 5 years at a supervisory level. Must have completed Fire Academy and EMT training; must possess Master Firefighter and Fire Instructor certifications. Must possess a State of Texas Class B Commercial Driver License.
